What to Do in Charlotte When You Travel In and Train with Us

When you show up at A+R Tactics for your Travel In and Train experience, we know you’re serious about learning. Whether it’s tactical application, scenario-based shoot house training, or real-world vehicle defense, we go hard—and we go deep.

But once the day’s training is done, we also know how to enjoy Charlotte. Our crew has lived, trained, and built community here for years, and we’ve got our go-to spots we hit up with friends and family after a long day on the range or the mats.

If you're traveling in, here’s a list of local favorites from the A+R Tactics team—things we personally love to do when it’s time to relax, reset, and explore the city.

NASCAR Hall of Fame

Whether you’re into racing or not, this place is impressive. Full of high-performance cars, historic footage, and hands-on experiences, it’s a cool dive into a sport that's full of intensity, precision, and legacy. There's even a simulator ride that gets your adrenaline going. Plan to spend some time here—it’s more than a museum, it’s a celebration of American grit.

Carowinds Amusement Park

This is where we let our inner kids out. Carowinds is a full-on amusement park with thrill rides, solid food, and nonstop energy. Fury 325? It’s legendary. It’s a great way to hang out with your crew or your family, and after a day of real-world tactical scenarios, it’s a different kind of adrenaline that hits just right.

U.S. National Whitewater Center

If you want adventure outside the shoot house—this is the place. Whitewater rafting, zip lines, rock climbing, trail biking, ropes courses... the U.S. National Whitewater Center is like a playground for grown-ups. There are concerts on Thursday nights from May through September, and you can grab a drink, chill by the river, or jump into any of their high-energy activities. Our team’s done team-building events here, mountain biking trails, even just hanging out by the water. It’s big enough to find your own corner, and clean enough to be impressive. This is an all-day kind of vibe—and we keep going back.

Discovery Place Science

A hands-on science museum that’s awesome for kids and adults. From touching sea stars and snakes to building your own inventions, the exhibits are creative, interactive, and super engaging. There’s even a little rainforest and an aquarium. Great stop if you’ve got the family with you or if you just like learning cool stuff in a creative way.

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

When we’re looking for some quiet after a high-intensity training day, we head to Daniel Stowe. Acres of beautiful trails, flowers, and fountains make this place a peaceful, reflective retreat. Every season brings something different, and the attention to detail—from photo vignettes to hidden spots by the lake—makes it one of our go-tos for downtime.

Museum of Illusions Charlotte

A mind-bending experience full of optical illusions and fun. Whether it’s a date night, a team outing, or a way to break the ice with visiting friends, this museum delivers. It’s a quick visit but packed with cool visuals and “how’d they do that?” moments. Great spot for some laughs and epic photos.

Camp North End

Local art, music, food, and culture collide at Camp North End. This place has become one of Charlotte’s most creative spaces, and we like hitting it up after training to grab a bite or walk through one of the markets. There’s always something happening—from murals going up to community events. It’s laid-back but buzzing with energy in a different way than our training floor.

So if you’re coming in for a Travel In and Train experience with us, make it more than just training. Make it a trip. Make it a memory. Whether you’ve got a day or a whole week here, there’s no shortage of ways to get the most out of Charlotte.

We’ll be here when you’re ready to level up.
